Learning Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, students will:
- be able to define stress and stressors
- understand the personal, physiological and general impact of stress
- be able to identify personal options for coping with stress
This course aims to broaden students’ understanding of the biological, psychological, and social aspects of the human stress response. The evolutionary origin of stress response is discussed, as are com-mon stressors. Due attention is placed on identifying ways of coping with pressure and managing stress. The differences between adaptive and maladaptive coping strategies are described, and coping strategies that increase resilience and promote good quality of life are discussed.
Modes of study: Lectures, work group sessions. Students are expected to do a considerable amount of work in smaller groups in between the sessions.
Study materials: A selection of research articles accessed via Moodle learning environment.
Evaluation criteria: Study journal, and/or written report regarding specific topic as a part of small group work
